What to know before you go…
1. Define Your Character and Set Goals
Take some time to craft your character’s background and voice. Set a couple of achievable goals for your first game—whether it’s earning 5 Frames or crafting new weapons. The more clearly you define your character’s motivations and ambitions, the more opportunities you'll see to chase plot hooks, ask questions, and actively shape the narrative. Embrace the "yes, and!" mindset by building on every opportunity that arises.
2. Pack Smart with the Survivor’s Checklist
Review the survivor's checklist to know what essentials to bring. One top recommendation: pack extra socks—at least twice as many as you think you’ll need. Changing your socks is a cherished LARP ritual, giving you a moment to reset and refocus. If you find yourself feeling grumpy or a little out of sorts - change your socks; drink some water. Most folks feel better after a short reset. By being well-prepared, you're setting yourself up to jump into unexpected plot twists and fully engage with the experience.
3. Fuel Up on the Go
Keep high-protein, high-calorie snacks handy for those on-the-move moments. These quick bites will keep your energy high and your mind sharp, allowing you to chase plots and dive into interactions without missing a beat. When you're fueled and alert, you'll find it easier to embrace new challenges and opportunities with enthusiasm.
4. Take Regular Breaks
Plan to take frequent breaks throughout the event. Use these moments to rest, change your socks, hydrate, and enjoy a hot meal with fellow players. Not only do these breaks recharge you physically, but they also offer a chance to engage in casual conversation, share ideas, and discover new plot threads. Remember, every break is a chance to connect — make the most of every moment!
5. Embrace the Experience
Dive headfirst into the world of Iron City and Boomtown with an open mind. Ask questions, follow plot leads, and jump in on spontaneous roleplay moments. The more you participate and build upon what others contribute, the richer your experience will be. Always remember: the energy and enthusiasm you put into the game will come back to you tenfold.
