BoomTown at Wildwood
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
BoomTown is set at Wildwood Outdoor Education Center, a camp site and program dedicated to bringing kids outside to learn and grow. Wildwood’s mission focuses on turning summer into a season of learning, youth development, and outdoor adventure for low-income Kansas City youth, providing them with opportunities to build resilience, teamwork, and confidence through nature.
For Dystopia Rising: Kansas, Wildwood will transform into BoomTown, offering players access to modern amenities while maintaining the immersive experience of the game. The site includes two climate-controlled cabins with electricity, private showers, restrooms, as well as large indoor and outdoor spaces for gameplay including player-hosted gatherings, combat, camping, and more.
The site currently features 50 beds across two cabins, each equipped with private stalls and showers. There’s also ample shaded ground for tent camping (we’ll announce perks for tent camping soon). Whether you prefer the comfort of a cabin or the full wasteland experience of camping, you’ll find a space that fits your playstyle.
Medical Sleep & Out-of-Character Sleep
We have very limited capacity for medical sleep, located in Wells Cabin, which also serves as our medical care area. Players needing medical sleep must provide a doctor’s note in advance of the event weekend, and beds are first come, first served based on availability. Wells Cabin also has a refrigerator designated for medicine storage, prioritizing players who require temperature-sensitive medication. Email us to request medical sleep.
As the primary medical care area, Wells Cabin is also the place where players can take a short break from the game, receive care for injuries, or recover if needed.
The cabins are winterized, and climate controlled. The fire pits are available for our use, subject to burn bans. There are two kitchens on site players are welcome to use. Both include a refrigerator and microwave and are first come, first serve. We ask players be courteous to others in the kitchen as it is a small space and that resource is limited. Please remember to clean up after yourself. These are the only two kitchens we have access to at this time.

Site map (IC and OOC) coming soon!

View of the center of the site, from the Meadowview Cabin facing the Learning Center, a two story building that will house the Post Office, research area, and more. The building on the right is the Dining Hall. To the left, you can just make out the Wells Cabin.

Inside the Learning Center. The second floor has an outside deck overlooking the center of the site and the lake. This building is climate controlled with restrooms.

This is the outside the Wells Cabin, our medical cabin. Centrally located, it is easy to get to from any point on site.

Inside the Wells Cabin, there is a medical area, sleeping space for up to 5 people (with prior approval), a small kitchen, and designated space for recovery in an OOG space.

Behind the Wells Cabin as you approach the Lakeside Cabin, there is a small firepit available for use. You can see the lake in the background.

This is the front of Lakeside Cabin. It is directly behind the Wells Cabin, and offers outdoor seating and firepit access.

The Lakeside Cabin sleeps 24 people in bunk-style beds. It is climate controlled, offers electricity, has 4 shower stalls and bathrooms.

The bunks on site are sturdy, twin sized beds. Consider bringing additional padding for your comfort.

Lakeside Cabin has 4 bathrooms with showers with a door for privacy.

Directly across from Wells Cabin, across a small field, is the Meadowview Cabin. Named for the meadow it overlooks, this cabin is closer to the Morgue, Ops, and Pavilion (seen in the background).

Meadowview Cabin sleeps 26 people and offers the same amenities as Lakeside: climate controlled, electricity, showers and bathrooms located in the cabin.

Meadowview has two distinct rooms, but are connected by a shared space that accesses the bathrooms. These areas are open for all players to sleep.

The Amphitheater is located outside the Dining Hall. You can see Meadowview to the left, and just out of view on the right is the Wells Cabin. There is a firepit accessible to players.

The Dining Hall is two stories. The top floor is the Dining Hall, which can seat up to 100 people with bench-style seating. The commercial kitchen is off limits to players, but there is counterspace outside of the kitchen and access to power outlets. The basement (pictured) is where Ops will be located.

Inside the Dining Hall. There is plenty of bench-style seating and counter space (not pictured) for players to bring crock-pots, coffee makers, etc. There is a commercial kitchen on site, but no access is permitted (this includes dishes, counters, refrigerator space, etc).

On the opposite side of the lake, the terrain increases in elevation and difficulty. There are cabins on the highest part of this area, but they are currently off-limits. Players can explore this area and find themselves deep in the wasteland.

The site hosts a well-known Burning Man-style event, and the residents have made permanent improvements to the site, this guy included. You'll discover more about it during our events.

This area is very expansive and offers a lot of area to explore and conduct secret deals.
